Summary: After the Gene Wars of the twenty-first century, First Citizen Moriarty ruled benignly. That was what all the smiling people on all the smiling posters looking adoringly at her were clearly thinking. They were wearing yellow sweaters. Yellow was the color adoration.

There were no criminals, only those who did not conform, and they went into the Labyrinth. Shurl knew that he'd be going there soon enough. He wasn't prepared to go in while in heat for a little game Moriarty liked to call, "Have sex and you die."

Even after studying the labyrinth his entire life, it was still a revelation.
